Our History

The Story of Warrikal

Warrikal was founded in 2016 by Amanda Healy, Roy Messer, and David Flett – three professionals who met while completing their MBA’s and saw a shared opportunity: to build a high-performance shutdown and maintenance business grounded in engineering strength and cultural purpose.

Led by Amanda, a proud woman of the Koori Nation, Warrikal is now one of Australia’s largest majority Aboriginal-owned mining services companies. From humble beginnings, the business has grown to over 1,500 personnel and delivers complex shutdown, maintenance and sustaining capital projects across Western Australia.

In 2021, Warrikal made industry history – securing a $350 million contract with Fortescue Metals Group, the largest ever awarded to an Indigenous-owned company. A similar win with BHP soon followed, cementing Warrikal’s reputation for safe, reliable execution at scale.

Today, Warrikal supports hundreds of local and Indigenous suppliers and continues to deliver trusted performance while creating lasting economic and social impact.

The name ‘Warrikal’- sometimes spelled ‘Warrigal’- means Wild Dingo in Indigenous language and is symbolised in our company logo. The logo’s design is inspired by a rock art engraving from Yengo National Park in New South Wales.

This connection is deeply personal. Our Chair, Dr Amanda Healy, a Wonnarua woman of the Hunter Valley and part of the Koori Nation, is a Traditional Owner of the Yengo National Park area, where this significant artwork is found.

Yengo National Park holds profound cultural and spiritual importance for the Wonnarua people. It is home to approximately 640 recorded Aboriginal cultural sites and features one of the largest and most important collections of rock art in Australia.
